Paisley and Prince At The Park

Here is Paisley and her Prince at the Park. We decided to take pictures of her and send them to Grandma and Grandpa and Great Grandma and Grandpa as a thank you for her beautiful gift. She didn't do much smiling this day...lots of scowls and looking at the trees. So what you see is what you get. I can't handle the ruffled pants and her old timey jewelry. Don't think we're crazy for taking Prince to the park, it's literally two minutes away. From a Photography perspective it's interesting how light works. In this situation the light moved around so much, we should have moved her too. It looks like we have a lot to learn about how to position our subject, and might think about that in the future.

Harmon Farms

Every year we try and make it a point to go and enjoy Harmon Farm's. This year will be our fifth and final year, because they have decided to close. I'm not sure why, but we will be looking for a new pumpkin patch this coming year. We made a day of it, and went out with a bang! Church, grabbed fast food, met everyone from church at Harmon's, pumpkin patched, horse rides, hayrides, Mellow Mushroom, and then Yumilicious! We had some tried kids, Mike and I were pretty tuckered too!

Soups On...

Good Golly I love Fall! And today is one of those days. I've done a little decorating and moving things around and it's been raining all day. I have soup on the stove and Carson just ran in from off the bus and smelled it's mighty goodness! "Mom, what in the world!" I love when he's so dramatic. I wonder where he gets it from? But seriously, my kids gobble this pumpkin goodness up!

Pumpkin Curry Soup

2 Tbsp of Butter {I use salted}

One small to medium Onion~diced

1-1 1/2 tsp of Garlic {I use the squeeze tube}

2 tsp Curry Powder

1/4 tsp Pepper

One can of 100% Pumpkin Puree

2 cans of Chicken Broth {I use 33% less sodium}

3/4 cup of Coconut Milk {Shake in can a bit to get it really mixed}

~Optional~

Chives and Sour Cream

~ Saute in your soup pot, the onion and butter {about 5-10 mins} on medium. Add the Garlic for one minute. Then add the Curry and Pepper for another minute. The Chicken Broth, and the Pumpkin Puree are next. Mix and let simmer for 20 minutes. After your 20 minute simmer is finished, take off the heat and add your Coconut milk. Then blend for a smooth constancy. {I use my stick blender and it works perfectly, but you can use a regular blender as well}. Top with chives and a dollop of sour cream if you're feeling fancy!

Last Lake Lure Outing

This may be our last time to stay with Auntie Jo and Uncle Butch at the Lake Lure Mountain house. They are putting it up for sale and want to move to a warmer climate. I wish I had the money to by me a little piece of a mountain; I LOVE the mountains! I like the smell of a wood burning fire, the crisp air, the chirps of the birds and the smell of the trees. {Ok, we may be able to squeeze a Christmas visit in.}

Boat And Brunch

On our last day at Lake Lure we decided that despite the cool weather, we were going to take a boat ride to the Lake Lure Inn and have Brunch.

The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa (we didn't do any spa~ing) is one of the original North Carolina landmarks, built when the waters of Lake Lure first began to fill. Over the years, The Inn has hosted a diverse range of celebrities from F. Scoot Fitzgerald, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Emily Post and Calvin Coolidge to Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey during the filming of Dirty Dancing.

It was a delicious way to end to our wonderful weekend!

A Hubba Hubba Lunch

When we were investigating if we should divert from our norm and go to another apple picking place, we stumbled upon this smokehouse. We just had to click on the link. If you know anything about the South, it's that we eat Bar~B~Q. Mike and I are addicted! As we approached the location, we could see the smoke in the air...a VERY GOOD SIGN! Hubba Hubba Smokehouse was the perfect warm-me-up to our FREEZING day! They even had a covered spot to sit with warmers. We had to get a little of everything and share. If you're in NC, you HAVE to look them up. The smoked fish taco's are to die for! Hubba Hubba!

Autumn Apples

Autumn is my favorite season! I may, or may not have influenced Carson to LOVE IT TOO! Sept was surprisingly hot this year. We had planned to go to see Uncle Butch and Auntie Jo in Lake Lure, then go apple picking in Henersonville, but the weather wasn't cooperating! Well, you'll never guess. When I was checking the report it said 62 and Sunny for the weekend. YAY! When we arrived there was a chill in the air and Auntie Jo had all of her Fall decor out, including some very spooky things (that Carson adores.)! She had an apple crisp in the oven, and apple cider~hot on stove top. We had dessert and put the kids down. All night it was windy and you could just tell the it was going to chilly the next day. My Fall day was almost within reach! The next day we layered up, the sun was out but it was~cold! The high was 54 for the day. We froze out toezies off because of the wind. We had a great day and I defiantly got my crisp weather!

Paisley's Hemangioma Surgery

Many of you know Paisley's story and how we noticed her hemangioma at about 5 weeks into her NICU stay. It's been about the same size for about a 20 months now, but just a slight change in color. We saw two specialists and decided that the best thing for her would be to go ahead and remove it. Children become self-aware about 2.5 so we thought that the timing was perfect. This past week she went into surgery down in Charleston.

Here are her last hemangioma pictures...I will treasure them forever.

She still has stitches in her mouth and glue on her face, but I took these pictures yesterday evening, before putting her in the tub. Here is the progress in just 10 days.

Paisley's Farm Party

If I've said it once, I've said it a one hundred times~ I love a good party! Paisley turned two and we had her a little farm party. We had it at the Hewitt Pavilion. It's an outside covered Pavilion behind our church, that is dedicated to our dears friends the Hewitt's in honor of their children who went to be with Jesus. One thing that I really like is that it is near the tree~line. You know how much I love trees. Trees are God's decor.

I decided that I was going to use what I had, so I didn't use traditional colors for our little farm party. I had pink and blue fabrics left over from this and that, and just went with it. The more and more sewing I did, it just came together. I took ideas from a few different blogs and friends {thanks Donelle Todd}! Here's the end result.

We had a wonderful time! Thanks friends!

Prince

This is Paisley's Pony Prince! He is her Birthday Present from her Grandma, Grandpa, Great Grandma and Great Grandpa. They think that every child should at some point, play on a pony. Great Grandpa (Mike's Grandpa) made one for Mike and his siblings. Sharon, Mike's mom has it and she will never, ever part with it. When Mike's grandma called to ask if we would want this special one that she bought years ago in New England, I couldn't believe it. She and Sharon went about fixing Prince up for Paisley (and Carson of course). Anyway~ Her birthday is coming up very soon so there will be Paisley Pictures to follow, but for now I'll give you a sneak peak. By the way, Great Grandma named him. I think he is befitting of his name, and you'll probably think so too after you see him! In addition, I love alliterations and Paisley's Pony Prince just delights me...

Time To Trust!

"Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" John 11:40, NIV

Having commanded the stone to be rolled away from the place where Lazarus was buried, Jesus challenged Martha not only to obedience but to expectant faith: "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" (John 11:40). In essence, He was saying, "It's time to place all of your small, mustard seed-sized faith in Me and My promise to you."

Martha had said she had faith. She intellectually believed what Jesus had said. But Martha needed to make the transition from faith to trust. Because, while belief is the consent of the mind and faith is a choice of the will, trust is a commitment of the heart.

The time had come for Martha to put her faith into action by surrendering all of her hopeful expectations and heartfelt longings and practical common sense and simply trust Him. And the time has come for you to simply trust Him. Trust HIM!

Back To School Bash

It was our Second Annul Back To School Bash--on the first day of school. Free rides, free face painting, free prizes (Thanks Moseley's Diamond Showcase), free food, free fun! Not strings attached--just to let our community know that we are here for them. We didn't even play Christian music! We want the world to know that we are Christians who want to serve. For our little area we had about 2,000 people show up. WOW! So cool. The News was even there to capture some of our fun! Here are some pictures, and if you live in the Chapin area you're going to want and come out for it next year!

First Day of First Grade

I thought that I was a seasoned veteran. I've done the first day of Kindergarten, had a few tears, and got through it. He was a big boy now, and I understood that. So, you would think that the first day of first grade would be no problem, WRONG!

Carson asked if I would walk him in on his first day. To be honest, the classroom situation is kind of weird. Classrooms are set up in colored hexagons, so it's easy to get confused. As daddy and Paisley waited in the car, Carson and I got out and headed toward his classroom. There were smiling teachers and aides everywhere. "Can I help you find your classroom?" We heard it over and over again as we walked down the halls. "We'll be here tomorrow too if you need any help"! Wow, it's so nice to be a part of such a wonderful school environment.

As we got near the classroom I asked Carson if I could take a picture outside of his classroom in front of his teachers name and room number. I could tell he was anxious to get inside so I only took one, and hoped for a good turn out. When we walked in everyone was calling out to Carson. "Carson!" "Carson!" He felt very welcomed and saw some familiar faces from pre-school and from the playground last year. He only has a few students from his kinder class.

He looked at me and said "bye mom". "I love you!" As my heart melted, I gave him a hug and left. I walked back through the halls of smiling teachers to get to Mike and Paiz who were patiently waiting for me. I got into the car and as Mike asked, how he do? My eyes swelled up with tears...What in the world?! I'm a pro, right? This is old news, right? Not for mommies! Milestone are bitter and sweet! (Mostly sweet I think.) I'm not embarrassed that I care about my family. I'm not shy about sharing these emotions with you, or to telling you that I get choked up once in a while. I am so thankful to be Carson's mommy. I ask the Lord to burn these types of memories in my brain so that I can treasure them and him forever. Thank you Jesus for Carson, and making me his mommy!

Room Update

Carson has had his Tee-pee bed for a few years now, and I still love it as much now as I did when we made it and put it up. I think he does too. Well, the other day a friend of mine sent out a mass text and put an Armour up for sale for $30.00. WHAT???? I jumped on it and bought it. Mike and her husband even delivered it and hauled it up the stairs to Carson's room. (I know, I'm a lucky duck!) Anyway, we had to move a few things around but look how it turned out.

Tomato Month

Did you know that August is tomato month? I've been trying my best to incorporate them into my meals. They are SO good for you (if you don't have reflux). This fruit packs a powerful punch! Here are ten reasons to eat tomatoes.

Anti-oxidant: Tomatoes contain a lot of vitamins A and C, mostly because of beta-carotene, and these vitamins act as an anti-oxidant, working to neutralize dangerous free radicals in the blood stream. These dangerous free radicals can cause cell damage. And keep in mind, the more red the tomato, the more beta-carotene it contains. Also, remember that cooking destroys much of vitamin C, so stick with raw tomatoes for these benefits.
Diabetes: Tomatoes also have plenty of the mineral chromium, which helps diabetics to keep their blood sugar level under control.
Smoking: No, tomatoes can’t help you stop smoking, but what they can do is to help reduce the damage smoking does to your body. Tomatoes contain chlorogenic acid and coumaric acid, which help to fight against some of the carcinogens brought about by cigarette smoke.
Vision: Because of all that vitamin A, tomatoes are also an excellent food to help improve your vision. This also means tomatoes can help your eyes be better about night blindness.
Heart troubles: Due to potassium and vitamin B, tomatoes help to lower blood pressure and to lower high cholesterol levels. This, in turn, could help prevent strokes, heart attack and other potentially life-threatening heart problems.
Skin care: Because of high amounts of lycopene, a substance found in many of the more expensive over-the-counter facial cleansers, tomatoes are great for skin care. The best way to use tomatoes for skin care is to peel a bunch of them, eight to twelve, then lay back and place the tomato skins on your face (or other skin areas). Make sure the inside of the tomato skins are against your skin, and let this sit for at least 10 minutes. Then wash off. You’re face will be cleaner and more shiny, though it also might be a little red from the tomatoes. Don’t worry, that red on your face will wear away.
Hair: Remember all that vitamin A in tomatoes? Well, it’s good for keeping your hair strong and shiny, and its also good for your eyes, teeth, skin and bones.
Cancer: Various studies have shown that because of all that lycopene in tomatoes, the red fruit helps to lessen the chances of prostate cancer in men, and also reduces the chance of stomach cancer and colorectal cancer. Lycopene is considered somewhat of a natural miracle anti-oxidant that may help to stop the growth of cancer cells. And, interestingly enough, cooked tomatoes produce more lycopene than do raw tomatoes, so enjoy that tomato soup!
Bones: Tomatoes have a fair amount of vitamin K and calcium, both of which help to strengthen and possibly repair in minor ways bones and bone tissue.
Kidney stones and gallstones: Eating tomatoes without the seeds has been shown in some studies to lessen the risk of gallstones and kidney stones.

Six Days Of Birthday Fun!

For Carson's birthday this year we decided to have six days of birthday fun, since Carson was turning six! Here's how we broke it down.

Day One: Ice Cream for Dinner

Day Two: Camp Out in Mom and Dad's Room!
I had a gift card that we used to go down to WalMart and get a two person tent so that Carson could camp out in our room. Mike found one for $21.00! PERFECT! I forgot to get a picture while the tent was up in our room, but here are a few pics from went we went tent camping...

Day Three: A Special Surprise.
When Carson woke up in the morning we reveled that there had been a special delivery during the night. Uncle Joel and Auntie Jeannette were in our guest rooms. Carson was over the moon that they came for his party all the way from California.

We had planned to do something special with Joel and Jeannette, but the special added touch was that we got a sitter so that Paisley could stay home, so Carson was the only kiddo for the whole day.

Yard Sale Finds

These are tins that I got for a dollar each...Did you're mom/grandma have her RITZ in the tin? Mine did!

A couple of weeks ago I went to hunt for yard sale finds with my friend Crystal Hewitt. We had a "big time" (for those of you who don't live in the South, that means a LOT of fun)! She was uber organized and had her husband map out the most effective routes to get to multiple sales. We even hit up an Estate sale. These were some of my finds...

LOVE this High Chair for $20.00 (No haggling on this one-- this was from the Estate Sale)

It folds back in one motion, so later you can scoot it up to the table like a booster seat...LOVE IT!

And I found the perfect spot!

I have been on the hunt for pretty footed juice glasses for about two years...even my mom's been keeping an eye out. Couldn't pass these up for $5.00. (Keep in mind that you can get a better deal if you find a set that is incomplete. There are 11 here and I was only looking for 8-10. I figure I have an extra one if one breaks. I think they figured they were only worth $5.00, because they were incomplete.) SOLD!

Last but not least, a DISCO Ball for Carson's Birthday. He requested a Michael Jackson Birthday Party this year and since there WILL BE dancing I couldn't NOT GET it. Mint condition $10.00.

Summer Veggies

I know that some of you have garden's and are reaping the benefits of having them right about now. I am one who does not have a garden and is reaping the benefits of others who do. Summer veggies are like no other. They just scream summer, bathing suits, getting out on the lake, and afternoon summer storms to me. We have had a steady stream of people giving us all sorts of veggies: tomato's, squash, zucchini, onions, avocado's, cucumbers etc. Boy are we lucky to be the recipients of such wonderful friends. De-Lish!

There are SO many more things I could post about our vacation, so this will probably be a long one...

Swimming: Carson is an amazing child. He's smart, funny, VERY outgoing, and I'm in love with his facial expressions. However, he isn't one of those fearless kids. He really takes his time in trying new things like: jumping off a diving board, getting water on his face, sliding down a huge inflatable etc. So, when we went to the Outter Banks two summers ago, Carson was near the water, but in no way was he in the water. I am happy to say that he has conquered that fear, and headed straight for the water as soon as we got there. He even tried the boogy board with dad! We were staying at a condo right on the beach, but it also had a pool and a spa. The change of pace from the ocean to the pool was nice and Carson enjoyed it THE MOST!

Shell Collecting: I made Carson and paisley These Fishy Crafts before we left on our trip and I'm happy to say we took them out almost everyday. I think kids by nature just like to pick things up. Investigating as they go and keeping little treasure is ALWAYS fun. These bags really came in handy.

Fire Works Can Be Used For Night Lights: Carson was going to share a room with Paisley, but when grandma and grandpa offered for him to stay in their room right off of the sliding glass door in the corner, he couldn't pass that up. There were fire works each night we were there. I didn't think Carson was going to like them because they're loud. But each night when we would go to play cards in the living room, he would leave the sliding glass door open (unto the enclosed balcony). He would watch and listen to the fireworks as he faded off to sleep. He told me that "fire works can be used as night lights". I think the built in wave machine (Ocean) was part of the allure.

We were on the hunt: Du-na, du-na! Du-na, du-na! Du-na, du-na! DU-NA! Our last day we went and found the perfect Shark Tooth Necklace. We found a coupon and picked this little gem up for .69 cents. Carson was on cloud nine! (It's the little things.)

Finding Nemo: On our way home, it was bitter/sweet. It's ALWAYS nice to get back into your own bed, with your own things, in your own environment. But on the flip side, we were sad to leave. We let the kids watch finding Nemo on the way home. Rather apropos, I'd say. I forgot all the cute lines in that movie; one being--"Fish are friends, NOT food!" Said by the sharks. I think we were trying to hold on to that last little bit of ocean...

We came home vacationed, relaxed, tried, and ready to sleep in our own beds. But one thing stands true to every beach vacation: SAND EVERYWHERE!

Crabby Legs

During our vacation-knowing that we would be by open water I really wanted some crab legs. We asked around and found a family friendly place--and went. Crabby Mike's HERE WE COME! When we drove up we saw a sign that said "More Parking" with a huge arrow pointing around the back. We figured it was a good sign if we had to park in Timbuktu because that meant for some good eats, but we expected quite a wait to be seated. 20 minutes later (not bad) we were seated and began our experience of one of the largest buffets I have ever seen; only Vegas could outdo this. I headed straight for the crab legs, but all of the seafood was de-lish. Even my mom-in-law who doesn't eat seafood for freshness reasons had to partake and said that it was REALLY good! We definitely got our fill! Thanks Crabby Mike's!

First Sign Of Sand...

As we were driving, the anticipation to see water was building. Carson was getting SO excited and Paisley a little tired of being in the car, but we were close--we could feel it. When visiting the ocean on the West Coast, you can smell it in the air. There's just something about beach air that let's you know that you're there. Oh, and beach hair. Can I get an Amen?! East Coast Water is totally different! We couldn't wait to put our toes in.

We arrived, Grandma and Grandpa checked us into our condo, and we all made a beeline for the water. Here are a few of the first evenings pictures.

Activities For Carson

You have to spend time, to save time! This has always been my teaching motto. But if you think about it, you can apply it to many situations. I spent a little time the other day and put together a little "Carson Quite Time" activity center. I had to spend time, but in the end it will save me from having Carson under foot. We spend all day together now that he is out of school, and I don't know about you, but I can't get anything done! So, for the past week, he has spent some time in his room...quiet! With Carson being occupied and Paisley down for her nap, I'm accomplishing things! I found three of my activities in the dollar section at Target, so I didn't spend a fortune. As a side note: spending a little money will save my sanity, so it's worth it for me! Remember to lay down some rules, but then just go for it!

I bought this Preschool Workbook (middle left), but it has a lot of great stuff that I feel like he can do on his own and really practice things for excellence (handwriting). He also has a journal that he has already started for summer and I made a list of topics that he can reference for inspiration. It's really sweet to see him write, and what he comes up with.

Remember, if you are introducing things that are new, it makes it exciting. However, if you adding activities that you have to keep explaining, your shooting yourself in the foot by defeating your purpose. This is quiet time work. We will be doing some direct instruction for new learning, but I'll save that for another post. Happy Quiet Time!

Shoes Forgotten and Found

I have been doing some cleaning to get us ready for summer (as usual). I really do like to be organized! I have gone through every inch of Carson's closet, drawers and armoire. I'm usually very good about keeping things that he isn't able to use yet in a separate section, but obviously I missed these. Up on a self were several bags from different stores. As most of you know we live in South Carolina. We have had the opportunity to do SO much here in our home state and have really been able to explore it's grandeur. What an amazing country we live in that each state is so different! One thing that we haven't done is visit Myrtle Beach. So, with that-- we are Beach Bound! Here are just a few things that I have been doing to get us ready.

I found some remnant fabric the other day with fish all over it, and my mind started to wonder...what can I make with all this fabric.

Pillow Case Dress: My friend Gretchen Lee requested quite some time ago that I make and post a tutorial on pillow case dresses. I just finished my first one, with matching bloomers! Adorable! However, I didn't take the time to go over each step, but found a great site to use as reference. Go here and enjoy! I decided to go one shoulder and added a button and rickrack.

Fish Shirt: Because I made something for Paisley, I thought I would get creative and make something for Carson. I decided to make him something that he would wear and not be embarrassed, so I went to a local store and bought a T-Shirt. When I got home I downloaded and printed a picture of a fish that I thought would be easy to sew and used it as a pattern. I used a zig-zag stitch and was finished in just a few minutes.

Collection Bags: I knew I wanted to make Carson and Paisley Collection Bags for shells and other such treasures that we would find at the beach. As I was perusing my friend Janna's blog, one of her earlier posts was about camp crafts and she made bags. She called her's "Nature Gathering Bags". Go here to take a look see. She made a great suggestions to line the bag with oil cloth, which I had in my stash already. They turned out so cute!

This one is for Carson, because he can wear it like a man bag, with one strap.

Last Day of Kindergarten

I can't believe it's here! The LAST DAY of Kindergarten! Carson just got off the bus a few minutes ago and I snapped these shots of him getting off the bus. We gave Mrs. B a 'sweet note of thanks' for being his bus driver this year. I love hearing Carson do impressions of her deep southern accent. I'm sure we'll see her next year. Today after Paisley's nap we will be celebrating with a Zesto's Ice Cream cone. Awe summer, we can't wait to enjoy you! Happy Last Day Carson! I'm so proud of your hard work! Memorial Day Weekend

We are having a blast! We had a friend come in from Nashville, TN (that we knew from California) for the weekend. So, we have been on the Lake, out for dinner, grilling, etc. Yesterday, we had a huge lunch after church. So, for dinner we had watermelon and homemade ice cream. Chocolate, Peanut Butter Cup--to be exact! DE-LISH! My kids can eat them some watermelon! Carson couldn't believe he got to have ice cream for dinner, but that's the way we roll round here! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. We are so thankful to live in the land of the free, and the home of the brave! Thank you to all the service men and women that make our freedom possible!

Prayer For Carson

Usually I go into Carson's room mid-morning while he's at school open up his window shade, straighten his bed, put dirty clothes in his closet etc. But today I went in and sat on his toy box and decided to make that my prayer spot. I have always prayed for him, and over him --that the Lord would do BIG things with his life for HIS glory, whatever that may be. I've always said "you can bring God glory driving a bus, if you use it for HIM!" I have big dreams for Carson, not a doctor or a lawyer (although, if that's what he wants to be, fine) but a Friend, a Man of God, a Husband, a Daddy. I hope that Mike and I are able to show Carson what a loving marriage looks like and how to be a good parent to his children. I challenge you today to pray for your children, and guide them in the way they should go...

I guess I found that rather difficult with a four year old and an eight month preemie, because it didn't get done. Real life I guess, huh? Anyway, this year I did. Going Back To Cali Baby!

Our trip to California was WONDERFUL! If you've never been, it truly is a MUST see. Because California is so large, there is SO MUCH TO SEE. You already know some of my favorites: Yosemite, the beaches, local mountains - Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear, but it was really nice just to sit in our parents backyards and just enjoy the beauty of being back home. The weather was great and our kids HAD A BLAST. We also were able to attend the Azusa Pacific University Choir and Orchestra's 30th reunion while we were there. We were able to sing and play with 300 other former members, and perform a concert of all the favorites. What a joy! We went to Amy's Farm for an Easter Egg hunt, and we squeezed in a day at Disneyland too (FOR FREE)! We had a BLAST!

I found these adorable Easter Place Card Robin's Nests at No Fuss Fabulous. You have to visit this site, it's a must!
Here’s how to make the nests:
1) Simply form the Excelsior moss into the desired size of nests with your hands. I made my nests about 3.5″ all around. Do not worry about making the nests perfect. Nature is imperfectly beautiful.
2) Place three Robin Eggs inside of each nest (from WalMart).
3) Print your guest names on card stock.
4) Cut out names and tape them to back of toothpicks.
5) Place toothpicks into nests! The moss will hold it in place.

Here are three projects that we did this past week. I would have posted them earlier, but Paisley got sick and I was unable to...did I mention it's the week before Easter and I'm the music Pastor's wife? I have been a bit busy going over music and getting last minute rehearsals in before Easter. Also, it's like I'm a married, single mom because Mike is so busy the week before Christmas and Easter. I'm not complaining, we really do love to serve. This Easter is going to be a wonderful celebration.

On The Phone With Israel

Wow, Beth is getting deep, so I can't give you particulars and specifics (it would just confuse you if you haven't done, or been doing the "Daniel" bible study by Beth Moore).

But~ The message that I took away from today, in Daniel 9: is that God (through Gabriel) gives Daniel all these numbers because Daniel is praying, and God decides to answer him right away (so he sends Gabriel). These numbers translate in to something amazing, and during this time Beth (we're on a first name basis) talks about the 'church age'.

God is on the phone with Israel. He is talking to them, and in the middle of his communication with them- Jesus enters the picture, literally riding in on a colt. Here's the cool part...The people proclaim that He is the King (Luke 19). WOW! The Jews end up not believing that Jesus is the Messiah, therefore entering us (believers) into the church age, where gentiles spread the gospel. So, God essentially puts the Israelites on hold and is now talking to the church age. Prophecy tells us that God DOES answer the party on hold, (in the future) the Jews will believe that Jesus is the Christ (because of seeing the antichrist), and Jews and gentiles will ALL BE BELIEVERS together! Amen and Halleluiah!

Since Mike is a pastor and has to work Sunday's (obvious) he gets another day off during the week. I love, Love, LOVE that he has Friday's off! Don't get me started! I'm in the fifth week of Daniel with Beth. We are on a first name basis! Well, at least I am with her. If you haven't done a Beth Moore study you are missing out! Each week God allows her to meet me just right where I am. Awe, it's refreshing to be pushed, motivated, encouraged to read the word. We had the BEST Valentine's weekend ever! The meteorologist had said about three times this winter that we should expect snow, each time we so highly anticipated it, and each time we were disappointed. So, this time we didn't take it seriously. Boy were we wrong! It started Friday afternoon and didn't stop until about 1:00 am the next morning.
In the meantime, the Olympic opening ceremonies were on Friday night. My Valentine and I put the kids down and watched with a fire in the fire place and the blinds open so we could see it snowing...BEAUTIFUL!
We woke up to the sound of children playing outside.
We quickly got ready and headed out to play, even Paisley! William Sonoma Hot Chocolate was next on the agenda and it was nice and smooth going down! Hope your Valentine's weekend was as nice as ours was!

This is my first year being a parent of a preschooler, so this is my first project for a teacher...here goes! I saw this idea and thought that I would share it with you too! This great tutorial will take you through each step, and her pictures are great. These Valentine Sachets are darling and thoughtful! I love the way they are kind of rough around the edges, but still really pretty. They look like an easy sew, so if you aren't a super duper sewer yet, this will be a great first project. She fills hers with lavender and rice, but I'm thinking that I might mix it up a bit and use a few other aroma's along with the rice. I might even make a couple for myself! More pictures to come.

Worship

I have been a worship leader's wife for 9 years now. Mike's particular form of worship - is music. I can honestly say that God has been speaking to me in a mighty way about worship lately. Here are a few things that God has reminded me of...

Growing close to God is such a privilege - just like being able to attend church. Our preferences as long time church attendees and mature people of faith, shouldn't matter. Where we sit, what type of music, or how the auditorium looks should be set aside so that we can come and WORSHIP. True worship is what God deserves. These days we are tricked into thinking that we have choice when it comes to church, ei: the way things look, who we want to see do what, the way things sound (too loud/too soft), what music should be played, etc. But true worship is simple...it's praise to Jesus/God in everything you do. It doesn't only exists inside the church walls. In fact, church is where only 1/7 of worship should reside. Worship shouldn't end when you walk out of the building. It doesn't look a particular way, come in a particular box, or sound like something particular. It's living life close to the Father and giving praise through your daily activity.

Beth Moore says "Worship is focus." Think about that for a moment. If we are actively thinking about, and focusing on God, we are in constant worship of him.

Right now we are going through a Mark Driscoll, Christian Study on sex with our small group. WOW! Hold on to your hats! Mark holds nothing back about how within marriage physical intimacy, is made and created by God - and by doing so, you worship God. We had a laugh when one of our small group members mentioned the song "Here I Am To Worship". Within the context of our discussion it was hilarious!

So about a year ago we took on the task of recovering this chair for our friends Craig and Crystal. Did I mention it was a YEAR AGO...Well, we're finally DONE! Projects take a lot longer when you have children, especially when one of them is a preemie. Paisley was still on her monitor, prevacid, and had doctors visits a couple times a week when I started this project, and WAS NOT a god nap taker. Anyway the point is, that we are finished and I hope Craig likes his chair!

Second Annual Card Contest

This is the second annual Christmas/New Year's Card Contest. We received SO many cards this year. It was so fun seeing pictures of families, reading letters and just getting caught up to date about what's going on in your lives...thank you so much for including us.

This year my pick goes to a close friend who is going through A LOT (over the course of the last few months). She has been taking it with stride and I'm glad to call her our friend! This was Karen's icing on the cake for the years end...her dog Tilly. As you can see he is in a cone. He had cuff surgery. A 3,600 dollar cuff surgery, and Karen has had to take care of him in addition to being an attorney. ALL 125 pounds of this carpet eating dog! In all she has spent about $4,200 on him. Here's hoping 2011 is cheaper on her pocket book (that's southern for wallet)!

Snow!

Well, we were dreaming of a white Christmas, I suppose like everyone else...and we almost got it! Christmas night it started to snow and continued on into the next day...ALL DAY! The boys got out there and played and played. I took Paisley for a little bit and then we decided it was nicer inside. We turned on the fire place and got the boys fresh clothes (cozy clothes is what we call them) to put on when they came in from the cold. While they were out, they grabbed a bowl full of snow, so that we could make snow cream. There are many recipes out there, but we are purists, so we just use snow and sweetened condensed milk.

Here are the ingredients and directions!

Big bowl of fresh clean snow

1 can of sweetened condensed milk

one large spoon for mixing

Pour your sweetened condensed milk over your bowl of snow. Mix and mix, and mix some more. Your snow with reduce by almost half, but you will be left with delicious snow cream.

PS~ Today in the car Carson said "I hope my friends got to play a snowball fight with they're dad's too"! I am so thankful for a daddy that get's out there and plays with his kids:)

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is the eve, of Christmas day, a widely celebrated festival commemorating the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. It is a culturally significant celebration for most of the Western world and is widely observed as a full or partial holiday in anticipation of Christmas.

At our house we open one gift, and leave cookies out for Santa. The reading of the Christmas Story is the next day.

Reindeer Food

We all have the tradition of leaving cookies for Santa, but the Reindeer need to eat too. How do you think Santa gets here? Those poor Reindeer get forgotten and they have quite a bit of weight to haul. So this year lets remember the Reindeer and the job they have of getting Big Fat Jolly Ol' Santa off the ground.

Here is the Special Recipe for Reindeer food!

1/4 Cup oatmeal

1/4 Cup sugar with a couple drops of food coloring (Or Red or Green sugar sprinkles will do)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients.
Spread on lawn Christmas Eve to guide Santa's reindeer to your home!

Christmas Vacation

This was Carson's first day of Christmas vacation. We watched movies in mommy and daddy's bed, we played games, he helped me with the dishes (might not seem fun to you, but to him it's a blast), and ran errands. Afterward we cruised by Chick-Fil-A. Just so thankful for this guy. He is so smart, funny, musical, loving... the list goes on and on... Sometimes I'm so quick to scold him, as if I expect perfection from him. Sometimes I have to take a step back and rethink what it is I'm trying to accomplish. What is it that I want him to learn from me. Is it love, forgiveness, mercy, kindness to others? Yes! Then I need to be modeling these attributes to him on a daily basis. I can't wait to show Carson this week (through spending some quality time with him) how much I love him. This should be fun!

The Birth Of Jesus

Luke 2:1-20

¹ In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. ² (This was the first census that took place while^[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) ³ And everyone went to their own town to register.

⁴ So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. ⁵ He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. ⁶ While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, ⁷ and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

⁸ And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. ⁹ An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. ¹⁰ But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. ¹¹ Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. ¹² This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

¹³ Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

¹⁴ “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

¹⁵ When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

¹⁶ So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. ¹⁷ When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, ¹⁸ and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. ¹⁹ But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. ²⁰ The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

What Christmas Is All About

The other day I was in WalMart with the kids doing a little shopping and getting some groceries, and I ran into a wonderful man named Sid. I remember as if it were yesterday...he was the first person we saw as Mike wheeled me into the NICU in my hospital gown. He said "looks like this is your first time. Let me give you the grand tour." I remember him being very happy, as I thought to myself- his baby must be doing very well. And here we were going to visit our 29 weeker. My heart was very grim that night. Mike did all the talking, and thanked Sid...I remember not saying a word.

As time passed on I would see Sid and his wife in the back corner, the same room as Paisley was in, reading to baby Sid. Not just reading anything. They were reading the bible. They would sing, pray, and read to him every day without skipping a beat. Come to find out through many conversations with them, Sid wasn't happy because his baby was doing well. Quite the opposite in fact. He was exemplifying Joy! Sid is a wonderful example of hope in Christ, and that's why he has JOY! Joy doesn't equal happiness! In fact, the bible tells us that there are going to be very hard times for all Christians. Joy is a choice. I love the song by Larnelle Harris: I Chose Joy! What a great reminder! (Sorry, I had to sneak that in...I grew up listening to Larnelle.)

It was so WONDERFUL to catch up with Sid. Baby Sid is home doing fairly well. You see, when Sid Jr. was going to be delivered he was 22.5 weeks. The hospital wanted the family to sign off before he even came out, that they understood that he might live but for only a few moments and then pass away. The hospital would take care of everything after that. Sid senior wouldn't sign off. He said "my God is bigger than this situation!" Wow, that's faith! Sid was correct! God has a plan for baby Sid. He is doing quite well considering all that he has been through.

As we were standing there talking in the middle of WalMart, Carson who is a friend to everyone, wanted a piece of the action. He was asking Sid questions, wanted to show him things, and wanted to tell him all about Paisley-how God has grown her up big and strong! I was THRILLED with how Carson was not embarrassed to share with Sid about the things that Jesus has done for our family. As we were about to leave, gave hugs-Carson said "Mr. Sid, do you know what Christmas is all about?" I was overjoyed with what I knew Carson's answer would be. "Yes, Carson I do, Sid said. Do you?" Carson said YES...

PRESENTS!

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen! A five year old answer, and a mother who wanted to hide in her shoe!

The Birth Of Jesus is on the agenda...again!
